Kaktusart

Die Arten dieser Gattung wachsen nicht hoch. Sie bilden dicht aneinander liegende Polster und wachsen kugelförmig. Die Triebe sind 10 cm lang. Die 5 mm großen Laubblätter sind zylindrisch geformt. Die Areolen sind mit Haaren, Borsten oder Dornen bedeckt.

Die Blüten sind rot oder gelb gefärbt und öffnen sich am Tag. Die Früchte sind kugelförmig und fleischig und haben kugel- bis birnenförmige Samen. Sie sind beige bis braun gefärbt und 3 bis 5,5 mm lang.

Die Arten der Gattung wachsen im Süden von Peru, in Chile, in Bolivien und im Norgen Argentiniens.
